ACETYLENE
C2H2
Applications:
•Welding / Cutting / Thermal coating
•Carbonising of glass molds in the glass industry
General information about Acetylene (C₂H₂)
Acetylene (chemical formula C₂H₂) is a synthesis gas.
This hydrocarbon is formed either from the reaction between calcium carbide and water or is of chemical origin.
It is colourless and odorless when pure, but otherwise has a strong garlic smell (due to the phosphorus in the calcium carbide). Acetylene is an unstable gas, highly flammable and must be stabilised.
Applications:
Acetylene is used in many applications. Here are a few examples:
Mechanical and metalworking industry
In combination with pure oxygen, the flame temperature can reach more than 3000°C (or 5400°F).
This allows various metals (steel, stainless steel, etc.) to be welded, heated, shaped or treated.
Acetylene is also used for cutting steel.
Laboratories
Acetylene N26 (99.6% pure) is used in atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS).
Another application is chemical synthesis.
Glass and metals
The acetylenic flame is used to lubricate production molds (glass, aluminum, etc...).
Delivery forms
Acetylene is available in gas cylinders of various sizes and in bundles to suit your applications and consumption profile.
