Acetylene gas for Metal Fabrication

Oxicorte - Air liquide

Acetylene gas is used for localised or manual operations such as welding, brazing, cutting, straightening or heating. Often used in conjunction with Oxygen for fuel gas / oxyacetylene gas welding and cutting.

The ability to adjust the flame characteristics by varying the oxygen-to-acetylene mix makes Acetylene a versatile heat source for a range of welding and related applications.

Compared to other fuel gases like Propane, Acetylene generates a hotter flame, making it suitable for welding steel, which has a higher melting point.

Energas Acetylene Gas Cylinders and Bottles

Acetylene cylinders are available in small, midi and large cylinders. All acetylene cylinders should be stored and transported in an upright position for safety.

Creating Different Flame Types:

By adjusting the ratio of oxygen to acetylene in the torch, welders can create three distinct types of flames, each suited for different welding tasks:

  • Neutral: Equal parts of oxygen and acetylene. This is the most commonly used flame for welding steel, cast iron, and some non-ferrous metals. It has a well-defined inner cone and a bluish outer flame.
  • Carburizing (or Reducing): Excess acetylene. This type has three zones and is used for welding nickel, some steel alloys, and for applying hardfacing materials. The excess carbon in the flame can add carbon to the weld metal.
  • Oxidizing: Excess oxygen. This type is hotter than the neutral flame and has a shorter, more pointed inner cone. It's used for welding brass, bronze, and some other non-ferrous metals.

Acetylene is a highly effective fuel gas for many applications, and specifically brazing when used with oxygen, providing the necessary high temperature and controllable heat for creating strong and reliable joints. However, strict adherence to safety guidelines is essential due to the flammable nature of acetylene.

Acetylene gas for Laboratories & Research Centres

Gaz de calibration et d'étalonnage - ALPHAGAZ

Acetylene gas is used for analysis in research laboratories and quality control for industry and healthcare. Acetylene gas is mainly used as fuel gas for the flame required in atomic absorption spectrophotometry.
